- Finish painting kitchen cabinets black (pictures will be posted as soon as I find my usb cable!)
- Prime and paint one of the walls in the kitchen RED. LOVE IT! It is just beautiful!
- Unpack the boxes in the family room
- Take Jack's toys out of the "toy room" he never uses and put them in the family room so we can use that room as a dedicated guest room
- Went to grab some KFC popcorn chicken for dinner (Scott is out of town--why cook?)
- Got evacuated from our home...
Yep. You read that right. Evacuated. As in, asked to leave for our safety. When we left to go grab dinner, I just slipped on a pair of Scott's (rather large) sandals and let Jack go barefoot, since we'd not be getting out of the car. We head home, except this is what we see blocking our street:
Times like 50. Seriously, we had the local PD's for both our city and the neighboring city, plus UHP and Davis County Sheriffs. It was crazy! So I'm attempting to find "back streets" to get home (not an easy feat when you've only lived in the neighborhood for a week!) when I found the north side of our street, I tried to turn but found another police barricade just a couple of houses away. I asked the officer what was going on and how I could get home. He told me I couldn't go home--there's a major gas line break (and subsequent leak) and nobody can be there until Questar shuts off the gas. Awesome. I was totally at a loss for what to do for an hour since I don't know a living soul in this area. At first I thought, "Well--thank heavens we're right across the street from an elementary school! We'll go play! Except Jack had no shoes on. So then I thought, "We'll go play at Jonathan and Virginia's house!" Except they're in meetings all night. So I think, "Maybe I'll just go shopping!" Except, again, Jack has no shoes and I've not showered today so I'm all greasy and paint-stained and we both look basically homeless. So I went to the one place where I knew we wouldn't be judged for our current state: Walmart. Bought some fabric for kitchen curtains then bought curtains for the dining room. When we got back home, our friends the police officers were still there. I begged the officer to let me park at the elementary school across the street and after only about 5 minutes, we got the thumbs up to go back home. (Note to self: donate some money to the Fraternal Order of Police!) So here we are and I need to speedy quick get a few final things done before my cute husband gets home.
Good grief I need a Cherry Coke.
4 smart remarks:
Oh. My. GOSH!!! I'm glad it was just a gas leak (rather than, say, a gang war that was happening in your backyard), but still... what a nightmare! I'm glad you were able to get back in (I'll be even more glad when you can post a pic of the red wall... I do love red). Don't'cha love being new to a neighborhood and not knowing where you can go? Good thing there's always a WalMart nearby, and we all know they certainly don't follow the old "no shirt, no shoes, no service" adage. :)
Are you kidding me? Is this what I was missing when you called? Now I regret not getting to be in the middle of the saga. I'm just sorry you had to be ousted from your home at such an inconvenient time.
But I agree with Laurie -- at least it was for something somewhat normal, which is more than I can say for the ghetto I currently live in.
peggy, you know you can always come to my place!!!! can't wait for your pictures of your red wall and black kitchen cabinets. does scott know you are doing this? or will this be a surprise? i always surprise chad, he hates that i paint our walls. ;)
*snort* ...Wal-mart. Oh, that was very, very funny.
I, unlike Laurie and Jami, am QUITE disappointed that there wasn't a full on shoot-out going on in front of your house or an OJ chase or a hostage crisis or something of the like. I mean...just a gas leak? No guns? No looting? No hot FBI negotiator to take pictures of? Bummer, man.
